At CornerStone Baptist Church we believe that the Bible is God’s inspired Word given directly to us. The Bible is the basis of our doctrinal beliefs, worldview, and ministry. At CornerStone we value reading, learning, memorizing, and living God’s Word so we can have it on our hearts and minds as we enter in and out of relationships with others. We value biblical teaching and preaching because only God’s word, not the words of men, can convict, convert, build up, and sanctify His people (Hebrews 4:12). Biblical teaching and preaching makes the main point of the text the main point of the message. This makes God’s agenda rule the church, not the preacher’s or teacher’s agenda (9Marks.com). God’s Word is truth!
Life is not meant to be lived alone. In fact, it is impossible to find fulfillment in life without meaningful relationships. At CornerStone Baptist Church we strive to foster a unified, relaxed environment where people can be real with each other and real with God. We value an environment where each esteems others better than themselves, not catering to personal preference but placing others first just as Jesus did. Here at CornerStone, we cultivate an environment where people are loved and accepted regardless of their back-ground, race, age, size, dress, or any other idea that might put a dividing wall between two people. We value community!
CornerStone Baptist Church exists to evangelize our community and the world and to make disciples of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19-20). At CornerStone we strive to be a duplicating church in two ways. First, we make local disciples by leading people to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, baptizing them, and teaching them to observe all that Jesus taught. We expect each member of CornerStone to be active disciples and disciple makers (2 Timothy 2:2). Second, we will be a church that duplicates by supporting other church plants both monetarily and spiritually and by actively planting other churches in Mississippi and around the world. We truly believe that if we are not duplicating local disciples and other churches, we are not growing and fulfilling our purpose. This is our mission!
Serving was the heartbeat of Jesus’ ministry, and serving others will be the heartbeat of CornerStone Baptist Church. We are called and will strive to serve our community by reaching out to those who have genuine needs. We will show the love of Christ by serving the community through everyday individual opportunities and through group service projects organized by the church. We are also called and will strive to serve each other within the church. By showing the love of Christ to one another through placing others needs above our own, we will be promoting love and unity within the body of Christ. We believe that many hands make light the work.
“Faith is the confidence that we hope for will actually happen; it gives assurance about things we can-not see.” Hebrews 11:1 NLT
At CornerStone Baptist Church we value faith because it is impossible to please God without it (Hebrews 11:6). He has given us His Way of salvation and His vision for reaching the people of Starkville with His love. In order to impact a city with the gospel of Jesus, we cannot think small. At CornerStone we will set impossible goals, take bold steps of faith, and watch God move. We must act on faith!
Jesus valued prayer in His earthly ministry. He often went to be alone and to pray to the Father (Luke 6:12). He also took time to specifically teach His disciples how to pray (Luke 11:1-13). At CornerStone Baptist Church we value prayer and recognize its power. We believe it can change people, circumstances, and outcomes. Therefore we will support every ministry and every minister with prayer. Prayer will be a part of our fellowship with each other and in our private and public worship.
Family life is important. It is vital to the health and unity of the church. At CornerStone Baptist Church we value family and recognize that our church will only be as strong and unified as our families are. We believe that outside our relationship with God, our relationship with family is crucial. The roles of the husband to his wife, the wife to her husband, parents to children and children to parents are painted all through scripture (Ephesians 5 & 6). We believe we are to help others understand that family learning, giving, and togetherness has a huge advantage in discovering the life God designed for His children.
At CornerStone Baptist Church we believe God is a giving God, and so we should be a giving people. We understand that, as God’s children, everything we have and own is a gift from Him, and that the reason we are blessed is so that we may be a blessing to others. As Christians we have a moral and Biblical obligation to use what we have been given—our time, our possessions, our talents and our abilities— to advance the Kingdom of heaven to all the world and to share God’s love and message with all
people at home and around the world. At CornerStone Baptist Church we value the opportunity to give to God and to others with an attitude that reflects our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We know we cannot out give God, but we will strive to give back to Him the first fruits of our labor.
The greatest commandment in the entire Bible is to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength (Matthew 22:37). This commandment is about us worshiping the Lord God with everything we have. We worship Jesus because we love Jesus. Worship is a response of all we are to all God has revealed Himself to be in the Scriptures. Worship is a way of life and it is what we are created to do. Worship is singing, praying, listening, enjoying and admiring God. At CornerStone Baptist Church we value Christ-centered worship. We value worship that is passionate, engaging and full of scripture, prayer and an awareness of God’s presence, both in our individual lives and in our corporate worship services.
